Memorial University Medical Center is currently seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer who possesses passion for athletic training, a positive attitude and is a great team player. This individual will collaborate with the Sports Medicine team to manage sports related injuries for our contract outreach locations. Contract settings include but are not limited to local high schools, private schools, colleges, athletic clubs and community events. The individual will cooperate with team members to assist in the development and promotion of Memorial University Medical Center and its Sports Medicine program. This participation will include implementation of the goals and objectives for the programs and will involve community participation, education and awareness.


This particular opportunity is for a casual position as a member of our Sports Medicine staff. Hours opportunities will vary and are based on contract coverage needs and also coverage of Full-Time staff PTO time as dictated by the Manager of Sports Medicine.



POSITION DUTY DESCRIPTION



  • Understands and demonstrates skill in appropriate methods of athletic training for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients. Practices in accordance with the Georgia Practice Act, Standards of Practice of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and policies and procedures of Memorial University Medical Center and its accrediting bodies.

  • Provides education to athletes, coaches, parents and other staff on conditioning, rest, diet, exercise, and re-conditioning and safe return to sport.  Serves as liaison between physicians, coaching staff, parents and significant others. 

  • Prevents, recognizes, evaluates, and provides immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries/illness.

  • Determines an individuals' readiness to participate in athletics. Effectively communicate with athletes, athlete's family (where appropriate), and staff regarding the athlete’s playing status.

  • Establishes treatment programs and makes appropriate referrals.

  • Evaluates athletes’ needs for protective equipment, conditioning programs, and further medical care. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to appropriately use the chain of command and protocol in injury management (e.g., appropriate documentation, athlete's family (where appropriate) and staff notification).

  • Actively attends and represents MUMC at hospital events, coaches meetings, community events, contract meetings, and Sports Medicine staff meetings. Promotes rehab therapy and sports medicine by participating in community service activities both in the facility and in the community.

  • As needed, provides athletic medicine coverage of events that are affiliated programs with MUMC.  Examples include but are not limited to: camps, tournaments, health fairs, educational classes, affiliated contract coverage.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and independent learning experiences and other forums.

  • Maintains accountability for individual work schedule including thorough communication with the Sports Medicine team and the Manager of Sports Medicine.

  • Understands the need for a flexible schedule and the on-call nature of the position.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Sports Medicine.



MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited college or university required

  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred

  • At least three months of experience required

  • Two years as a Certified Athletic trainer preferred


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS



  • Currently licensed (or eligible) in the State of Georgia as an Athletic Trainer.

  • Certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).

  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification via the American Heart Association.

  • Must show National BOC Certification from NATA during reference checking period of employment; Georgia State Athletic Training Licensure obtained within first thirty day probation period
