In response to our strategic plans to grow our Business Credit Card portfolio, we are adding a key underwriting role to our Centralized Credit Management Team within SVB Global Cards and Merchant Services team. We are looking for the right individual to contribute to this exciting opportunity by providing deep industry expertise within our fast growing business credit card business to help some of the most influential entrepreneurs and investors launch and grow their business globally. We serve technology and life science sectors as well as premium wine clients.
The core responsibilities of this position are to assess the credit worthiness of technology and life science start-up’s, growth companies and provide risk rating and underwriting decision for all prospective clients of business credit card program. Key to this role is the ability to work with all the related business partners and make credit line assignment decision on all business credit card products within the Bank credit policy, monitor the business credit card performance and the change of business credit worthiness to drive card revenue growth while mitigate the portfolio credit risk.
Skills and Requirements:• Conduct daily business credit card underwriting to drive business growth and mitigate the credit risk.
• Work across enterprise and with various stakeholders in developing effective deal team engagement strategies, credit parameters, and client service delivery.
• Provide in-depth credit worthiness assessment (risk rating) and underwrite business credit card credit lines on business clients that are banked with SVB.
• Monitor both the business credit card portfolios’ credit improvement /deterioration to take risk action proactively.
• Provide and monitor credit risk analysis reports on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis
• Provide meaningful assessment and feedback on portfolio performance.
• Understand regulatory impact on credit products and credit processes.
• Proactively help evolve the bank’s credit risk reporting, credit policies, and procedures.
• Maintain appropriate credit measurement and monitoring processes while developing new standards to streamline, scale, and optimize operational processes.
The role is expected to execute the daily tasks of our centralized credit card expansion program and is expected to operate independently within the oversight of the CCMT Director and Sr. Credit Officer.
This risk manager will need to develop strong internal relationships and work closely in partnership with Credit Administration, Payment Operation, Sales, Relationship, and client facing teams. The right individual will have both influence and exposure to the Credit and Payment Leadership Team.
The position requires deep expertise in commercial loan underwriting, particularly over small business portfolios. The ability to conduct credit analysis to underwrite a business credit lines utilizing both traditional financial information and small business behavior characteristics is required. Experience in underwriting business credit card portfolio is a plus. Understanding the venture capital / start up ecosystem is a plus.
Must be able to work independently and quickly gain a thorough knowledge of SVB’s bank operations and payment products to work effectively with internal Commercial Banking clients and stakeholders.
Must have strong organizational and time management skills, and excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and facilitation skills to lead meetings or interviews with subject matter experts and other project contributors or stakeholders. Must be able to collaborate with all related business partners internally and externally.
Requires 5+ years of strong and direct experience in commercial credit analysis, commercial financial facility underwriting, credit and account management, and portfolio monitoring. Prefer deep experience from a large financial institution that has credit product offering to small business: i.e. Chase, Wells, American Express, Bank of America, etc. Demonstrated expertise in commercial credit underwriting is required as is the ability to be consultative and influential on risk related decisions that could impact the long term health of the organization.
Software: Demonstrated proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office applications (specifically, Outlook, Excel, Visio, Word, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAS, SQL or other data management computer language is a plus but not required
Education: BS/BA Degree in Finance, Statistics, Math or Economics; MBA a plus, CFA a plus
