The Advisory Services Group handles the Bank’s more challenging credit situations, including all non-performing loans and charge-offs and the majority of Substandard loans. The position requires an ability to work a portfolio of problem loans in order to minimize loss and maximize probability for repayment. Companies range in size from early stage venture backed deals to large corporate deals (including publicly traded companies) and sponsor-led buyouts, and all are in the innovation space. This position will directly handle complex and sometimes sensitive negotiations with CEOs/CFOs and investors and be able to adapt tone and style in order to preserve the Bank’s relationships as best as possible.
Skills and Requirements:In this role, the selected candidate will:
Manage the risk of loss in the loan portfolio and work directly with our clients and their investors with the goal of resolving default situations and restructuring loans, when appropriate.
Develop strategies and make recommendations to the Head of Advisory Services to determine how a particular situation should be resolved. This includes detailed, yet succinct analysis or rationale for such recommendation, and will then negotiate the terms with the client, direct the underwriting, manage the credit approval process, and work with outside counsel to finalize documentation.
Perform a weekly non-performing loan forecast for his or her assigned deals and assists with other reporting activities, including past dues and quarterly FAS114 reserve analysis.
Train and mentor the relationship management teams in effective management of problem accounts to include active consultation on specific accounts with an adverse risk profile.
Minimum of 10 years of commercial banking experience required, not necessarily in loan workout, though restructuring or similar experience is desirable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills
High degree of professionalism and sound judgement
Strong attention to detail
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, or related work experience within the banking/financial service sector is required.
