Opportunity:

Supervise the professional accounting staff responsible for the production of accurate and timely financial reporting information for Sungard Availability Services, LP, including functional lines of business, domestic entities, and international entities in compliance with GAAP. Financial reports produced by the team are used for reporting to operating management, executive management, the board of directors, the audit committee, external regulatory agencies, banks and bond holders, and tax authorities.  You will maintain effective internal controls and work closely with operations and administrative functions, accounting processes and entities to optimize efficiency and controls within the accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises a team of professional accountants, providing direction, training and coaching to staff.  Encourages team to provide ideas and feedback. 
  • Coordinates the monthly period-end financial statement close for the Company’s U.S. and Canada-based operations ensuring information is accurate, complete and in conformity with Company policy and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ensures compliance with Accounting Standards, internal controls and policies. Independently, identifies and resolves issues prior to managerial review.
  • Ensures that all reconciliations (including but not limited to US and Canadian Balance Sheet reconciliations) are completed and receive appropriate managerial review.
  • A liaison to external auditors, providing substantive support for transactions.
  • Maintain relationship with Canadian tax preparer and provide needed data to support the annual tax filing.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with internal clients and functions. Coordinates any transactions from these stakeholders that need to be recorded.
  • Works with internal clients to identify opportunities for improvements and implement procedural changes as required.
  • Leads the ongoing identification and implementation of continuous process improvements and accounting best practices to further enhance the timeliness, accuracy and relevance of reporting provided to our internal customers and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with FP&A for budget and forecast preparation and for variance analysis.
  • Assists the consolidations team with disclosure requirements related to monthly, quarterly and year-end debt compliance and external reporting.

Tactical Areas of Work:

  • Direct monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries, ensuring proper compliance with GAAP.
  • Payroll for North America
  • Commissions for North America.
  • Auto-gross up.
  • Workers Compensation.
  • Debt – Term loan Gap period interest and senior note interest accruals.
  • Incentive Compensation for North America.
  • Legal & Professional Fees.
  • Other high-risk accruals and related analysis such as self-insured Medical.
  • Preparation of certain high-risk account reconciliations.
  • Lead and maintain North America One-Time file.
  • Accounting for A-Star (Sungard AS employee recognition rewards).
  • Assist with preparation of financial statement footnotes with Consolidations group.
  • Direct account analysis of fluctuations.
  • Timely and accurate closing of the financial books.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Experience in closing the books of a global corporation.
  • Four to six years of related financial accounting experience with a mid-sized to large company and/or public accounting and auditing experience with a regional or national public accounting firm.
  • One to three years supervisory experience leading team of two or more associates.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Strong GAAP accounting skills and proven experience in internal controls, general ledger and balance sheet analysis.
  • Experienced in accounting systems (Oracle, SAP, JDE, Hyperion, Great Plains, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving acumen.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focus required. 
  • Proven experience presenting financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, make decisions, prioritize and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

Preferred Qualities:

  • Experience with a public company.
  • International Experience.
  • Experience in information technology industry.
  • Oracle E-Business Suite Financials and Oracle Hyperion experience.
  • Experience with Blackline or similar product is a Plus.
