Vaulting Engineer






This team is responsible for Top Tier Incident Response, Lifecycle, Capacity Planning and Problem Management of Sungard Availability Services’ shared and dedicated backup/vaulting infrastructure.  We are involved in new product development and help test, validate, document and train the day-to-day operations support teams on new products and features.  Our team is considered backup Subject Matter Experts and as Top Tier engineers, are a last stop for escalations in outage or crisis situations.



  1. Provide Top Tier operational support of backup/vaulting environments, maintaining ownership and a deep technical knowledge.

  2. Participate in development and deployment of cost effective, operationally supportable solutions that meet complex customer requirements and SLAs.

  3. Maintain knowledge of multiple technologies in Sungard AS shared environments as well as customer dedicated environments.

  4. Deliver end of the road support for complex environments.

  5. Provide clear technical documentation and written ISO procedures to ensure SunGard support team members can assist in all phases of management across different device types.

  6. Build and maintain relationships with key customer’s technical staff members and with internal stakeholders.

  7. Provide technical assistance to all SunGard internal/external customers during environment outages.

  8. Create documentation and provide education to support teams for new products and features.

  9. Provision, configure, tune and manage infrastructure components.

  10. Plan and perform maintenance activity when required.

  11. Perform after-hours support in an on-call rotation as needed.

  12. Manage and maintain end-to-end relationships within reporting tool.

  13. Provide world-class customer support and technical expertise for SunGard customers.



  • Educated to GCSE Level C or above in English and Maths. Essential.

  • Educated to A Level Standard. Desirable.

  • Minimum 5 years experience managing large eVault environments with strong understanding of Director, System Restore, Report Extractor, Portal and Windows CentralControl . Essential.

  • Understand data protection and restore/recovery of common technologies, OSes, databases and applications (VMware/vSphere, Windows, Linux, Unix variants, Lotus Notes, MS Exchange, MSSQL Server, Oracle, etc.). Essential.

  • Basic knowledge of storage technologies (RAID, SAN, NAS, NFS, iSCSI). Essential.

  • Minimum 3 years Systems management with in-depth understanding of at least one Operating System – Windows, Solaris, Linux. Essential.

  • BASH, Perl, and/or other scripting experience a definite plus. Desirable.

  • Experience supporting IBM TSM, Veritas NetBackup and/or CommVault a definite plus. Desirable.

  • Industry recognized certification in storage / backup technology(ies) a plus. Desirable.

  • Experience with backup monitoring tools such as Aptare Storage Console a plus. Desirable.

  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the UK and complete BS7858 British standard screening prior to joining company
