Position Summary:

  • Reporting to the Cloud and IT Transformation Practice Leader, the Principal Consulting Engineer is responsible for supporting sales and leading delivery of Infrastructure Transformation and Cloud consulting engagements across North America. The Principal Consulting Engineer will be expected to participate in pre-sales business development, lead and deliver on consulting projects and contribute to the overall development of the Practice.
  • In general, the role is expected to focus on positioning, leading and delivering technology transformation elements of an engagement.  For example, gathering and translating customer requirements to form a technical strategy; from which the Principal Consulting Engineer would create a technology blueprint through to detailed architecture.  The role would also advise on how that technology architecture can transform a client’s environment as well as building the associated business case for change and an appropriate roadmap for implementation.
  • Typically, engagements encompass the translation of customer requirements to engagement objectives, data gathering and assessment to form a technical strategy and development of a technology blueprint through to detailed architecture.  Included would be advising on how the technology architecture can transform a client’s environment as well as building the associated business case for change and an appropriate roadmap for implementation.
  • The Principal Consulting Engineer is expected to cover the full lifecycle of an engagement from supporting Engagement Managers in scoping and positioning solutions within the pre-sales environment through to team selection and on-boarding and engagement delivery, management and closure.
  • Consulting delivery is project based work and the Principal Consulting Engineer will be expected to on-site with clients, from Sungard AS location and from home, as dictated by the specific project requirements.
  • The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of, and be able to articulate the cloud and hybrid IT transformational journey in both business value and technology terms to a variety of client business and IT stakeholder groups. Their understanding of methods, tools, techniques and experience in the architecture area will help both sustain and accelerate such transformation programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Working within pursuit and delivery teams to drive consistent, predictable and scalable development and delivery of solutions and services and to ensure successful completion of client engagements as well as overall client satisfaction
  • Participating in the collection of data during the discovery phase of engagements via interview, workshop and other discovery techniques and toolsets
  • Participating in and creation of material during the analysis and design phase of engagements using structured analysis methods, tools and techniques
  • Presenting and creating material that outlines options to clients to support their decision to transform
  • Acting as quality review of infrastructure consulting deliverables
  • Leading medium to large sized technical engagements and technology streams within larger programs
  • Strong stakeholder management qualities are essential for the success of this role.
  • This position requires strong communication and presentation skills, business development acumen, a well-developed technical aptitude, the ability to work successfully as part of a team, and a strong industry background.
  • Willing to travel. This position will require up to 75% of the candidate’s time on site with the customer
  • Accountable for consistent, predictable and scalable delivery of solutions and services and to ensure successful completion of client engagements as well as overall client satisfaction
  • Assist in Practice growth through mentoring technical professionals and development of key architectural / technical infrastructure intellectual capital
  • Represent Sungard AS and present at external forums and events, acting as a subject matter expert in the area of Infrastructure and Cloud Transformation
  • Continually develop own management, consulting and subject expertise as required by the practice
  • The following knowledge, skills and experience are highly desirable for the role:
    • Exceptional consulting skills, including methods, tools and techniques to apply within an IT transformation context
    • Individual might have experience in delivering security within Internet facing, transactional digital services.
    • Cost and value management, particularly business case development within an IT context

Qualifications / Competencies:

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Preferred

Professional Qualifications

  • TOGAF
  • ITIL

Expertise

  • Effectively leading and manage technical engagements within the IT infrastructure space
  • Exceptional consulting skills, including methods, tools and techniques to apply within an IT transformation context
  • Significant experience across full lifecycle IT infrastructure development and transformation, of relevance would be engagements focused on private and hybrid cloud model development, Data Center consolidation, post M&A integration, shared services development, cost optimization and sourcing transformation
  • Track record of successful delivery of major transition/ infrastructure deployment projects
  • Significant experience in technical architecture development within a big 5, other significant branded consultancy, system developer or systems integrator environment
  • Broad knowledge of infrastructure technologies across server, storage, networks and integration technologies with a strong appreciation of cloud strategies, tools and technologies
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to both work effectively, influence and develop trusted relationships at senior levels in client organizations
  • Ability to lead and effectively manage teams
  • Appreciation of enterprise and system / application architecture
