Role:

Reporting to the Sr. VP Global Solution Engineering, VP Solutions Engineering & Architecture is expected to collaborate with senior executives and other key stakeholders across the sales organization to evolve strategic direction and to support execution through the provision of appropriate solutions and support.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to comprehend business requirements and influence customer decisions based on achievement of technical objectives. The ability to determine the best strategy in selling to a customer based on the customer’s business vs. technical nature is a must. The individual will play a key role in helping to align geographic strategies into a cohesive global deliverable. The individual will be a leader – capable of building and managing an outstanding team across Europe.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Build and provide solid leadership to a team of solution engineers and architects across EMEA.

  2. Build strong relationships and collaborate across a global organization

  3. Facilitate cross-team collaboration for globally distributed organizations while evangelizing strategy, enforcing best practices and incorporating feedback from internal resources and partners

  4. Define the architecture and strategy for Sungard AS

  5. Establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales lifecycle, with a focus on scoping solutions within the existing technical capabilities while still delivering on and enhancing the account strategy

  6. Drive incremental revenue through the development, and maintaining of C-level technical and business relationships with large complex sales opportunities to best position Sungard’s capabilities and integrated value proposition

  7. Using a consultative selling approach, identify client business issues, determine client desired outcomes and architect an information availability solution that utilizes all of Sungard’s products and services, including consulting services, software services, managed services, advanced and traditional recovery services.

  8. Prioritize and maintain sales pipeline within assigned region, focusing on large or strategic opportunities, as defined by Sales. Report out on deal status and progress.

  9. Provide feedback into new and existing product portfolio and strategic roadmap.

  10. Account for both high level (ROM) and detailed development estimates for a proposed solution

  11. Manage the solutioning processes with cross-functional teams as required to envision, define, design and monitor the implementation of complex solutions to our clients

  12. Drive efficiencies and change within the Solutions Architecture and Pre-sales organization through process improvements

  13. Provide mentoring, training and coaching within the Sales organization

  14. Develop and deliver effective professional presentations at any internal or external level

  15. Maintain a solid working knowledge of Sungard products and services

  16. Complete all assigned product, services, policy and other training as assigned by management

  17. Complete quarterly objectives (MBO’s)

  18. Work supportively with colleagues, operating in a collegiate manner at all times and in line with the Company’s values.

 

Profile:

  • Degree in Computer science, Engineering or MBA. Desirable.

  • Experience of working in a global multi-site organization and working collaboratively globally, demonstrating expert ability to influence at all levels.

  • Demonstrable evidence of leading a large successful team, contributing to business success.

  • 10 to 15 years’ experience, or equivalent, leading Solution engineering teams in the technology industry. Desirable.

  • Min of 5 years supporting complex client requirements assessment and solutions development required. Desirable.

  • 10 – 15 years of technical services, pre-sales support experience or equivalent. Desirable.

  • 5 - 7 years of managed hosting services, networking experience, or equivalent. Desirable.

  • 5 – 7 years of business and/or technical consulting experience or equivalent. Desirable.

  • Minimum 10 years of pre-sales leadership experience, with a proven ability to motivate and drive a high-performance team.

  • Significant experience in the background of information technology/IT infrastructure segment.

  • Project management skills to advanced level with the ability to prioritize multiple complex projects required.

  • Proven track record of establishing and solidifying strategic relationships with key customers and partners, while representing suites of complex IT, IT services, and/or advanced availability solutions.

  • Ability to take a holistic and strategic view of the business process, leveraging a deep understanding of end-to-end business models and sales. Essential.

  • Exhibited skill-set, capabilities, and hard-hitting determination to drive through actions in partnership with management/business unit partners. Essential.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to a business and/or functional audience. Essential.

  • Clear understanding of all tiers of a technical solution both from a technical and business mindset. Essential.

  • Ability to develop, write and defend complex business case analysis for solutions not part of current product required. Essential.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, negotiation skills, and presentation skills, and the ability to influence and communicate professionally across all functional lines. Essential.

  • Project management skills to advanced level with the ability to prioritize multiple complex projects required. Essential.

  • Monitor and measure team progress against business plan and recommending changes as needed. Essential.

  • Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives beyond immediate area of responsibility, and in complex environments. Essential.

  • Lead or ensure execution on programs to improve customer experience to increase brand loyalty for Sungard AS. Essential.

  • Travel as needed for the role.   This varies by geography and ranges up to 50% or more in some instances such as national roles. Essential.
