Consulting Manager

Opportunity:

As a Manager in IT Service Continuity you will be responsible for Consulting Service Delivery across a portfolio of clients and projects. Typical projects include IT Service Management Process Review and Assessment, Disaster Recovery Program Assessments, IT Strategy Analysis and Development. In addition to leading project delivery, the Manager supports strategic sales efforts and business development, functioning as a subject matter expert in understanding client requirements and qualifying opportunities.

The Manager is expected to be a thought leader and should have broad subject matter understanding in IT Service Management, Business Continuity, Data Center and IT Operations, IT Audit, and SDLC. A solid comprehension of the use of standard and emerging technologies to solve business problem is also expected including Distributed Systems, Mainframes, SAN/NAS, Virtualization and Cloud.

Responsibilities:

  1. The Manager may be responsible for managing direct reports. As a People Manager, you will be required to oversee (lead, coach and provide direction) consulting team members. This includes career counseling, performance assessments, training program development and time/expense approval.

  2. The Manager will have Engagement Manager responsibilities, which will include: interface with Staffing Coordinator to ensure the proper staffing for your project(s); managing and reporting on project profitability; writing Periodic Performance Appraisals (PPAs) for project team members; ensure time and expenses are reported and approved in a timely fashion; ensure that the project timeline is followed; that deliverables meet stated objectives of the Statement of Work (SoW) for the engagement and have a thorough understanding of work effort estimation, letters of agreement, master service agreements, staffing model, average bill rates and cost structure by level.

  3. The Manager will act as the Sungard AS management interface to the client. This may include developing and reviewing deliverables, regular reporting on project status, meetings with executive management to present and discuss methodologies, capability status, strategies and findings related to the current project.

  4. A utilization goal of 70%; a revenue target of $1.5M and $500K in new sales or add-on business.

  5. Providing thought leadership within Service Line across all industries.

  6. Maintain an awareness of technological and program advancements in the field of Operational Resilience.

  7. Work with Service Line leaders to drive new business development activity by:

  • Engaging Industry Sector leaders and domain experts in the pursuit of new opportunities and execution of account plans and penetration strategies.

  • Responding to RFPs, developing pricing using standard tools and contributing to Statements of Work (SoWs).

  • Developing Service Line programs/initiatives that produce new revenue streams.

 

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of seven years of IT consulting experience and three years of People and Engagement Manager Experience. Five or more years working within IT organizations to support operational resilience, either as a consultant or on staff manager. Experience with integrated program management, complex service delivery, and high-availability architectures is required.

  2. Experience in managing a portfolio of large consulting engagements or premier account relationships with revenue of $1M+ specific to delivery of Operational Resilience programs.

  3. Requires strong work management skills (time, accounting, project completion, forecasting).

  4. Requires effective analytical and reasoning skills to plan, develop, implement and integrate strategies, policies and objectives and carry out needs, risk and financial analyses.

  5. Subject Matter Expert in one or more of the following areas (ITIL v3, Operational Resilience, DR Program Development, Program Management, working knowledge of compliance with Industry Standards and Regulations.)

  6. Where applicable, a Subject Matter Expert in one or more technical areas of delivery such as Cloud, Virtualization, and other technologies evolving in the Operational Resilience discipline today.

  7. Certification (such as ITIL v3, PMP, or MBCI) is desired

 

Preferred Qualities:

  • The Manager must have excellent listening, speaking, writing, decision making, problem solving and presentation skills and the ability to deliver solutions through a crisis or disaster event.

  • Managers will be required to travel extensively for periods of time on engagements (upwards of 75 – 100% of the time). Managers are required to work through periods of time where they will be heavily engaged in viewing computer screens, reading and reviewing documentation or expected to lead intense work sessions that require high levels of concentration.

  • Managers will be required to work in Client allocated workspace (when onsite), so environmental conditions can be unpredictable and may present some additional challenges.

  • Managers must be able to deal with personalities and work through issues to meet the requirements of the client. They may be onsite where they are required to think independently and strategically in support of a client’s needs.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business or Technical) at an accredited university

  • Master’s degree preferred (M.S., M.A. or MBA)
